At the Mudita Mindfulness & Ayurveda Health Retreats you will enjoy a transformative week of teachings, rest, relaxation, healing Ayurvedic food, cooking demonstrations, daily meditation and gentle yoga and therapeutic treatments and consultations.

Learn how to cook, eat and live in a way that supports a strong metabolism and immune system. Learn how what we eat directly affects our state of mind as well as our state of health. Learn simple mindfulness practices for improving your capacity to manage stress, anxiety, anger and other difficult emotions. And, most importantly, learn how to be kinder to yourself in your approach to health and happiness.

If you're interested in your health and happiness it is more than likely you’re a little confused.  Why?  Because you’re bombarded with huge amounts of information every day that is often contradictory or constantly changing based on the latest research.

At this retreat, we’ll clear up some of the confusion.  The things we teach just make sense.  They are based on the fundamental laws of nature and these laws do not change.  Ever. So the recommendations do not change.

There will be no talk of superfoods and no bombarding you with micronutrient guff and biochemistry. The things we teach are easy, understandable, enjoyable, do-able and sustainable. No fuss. No stress. Nothing freaky... just grandmother wisdom that makes sense and feels right. Feels good.

It also sticks. This isn’t the type of health retreat where you have a restful, luxurious week and then go back to your usual madness, no clearer on how to look after yourself in the ‘real world’.

At this retreat you will learn why you're feeling so agitated, rushed and stressed in the first place. And you'll learn how to change using very simple dietary, lifestyle and mindfulness practices.... from people who are very experienced practitioners but have also transformed their own lives with these practices...

So let us help you to feel clear and confident in your approach to living a happier, healthier life!!

Specifically, we will teach you how to:

     •     Improve your digestion and metabolism

     •     Reduce toxins in your body (without having to ‘detox’)

     •     Improve the quality of your tissues

     •     Increase your energy; and

     •     Strengthen your immune system.

We will also teach you how to:

     •     Slow down and experience true relaxation

     •     Reduce stress, anxiety, depression and confusion

     •     Work with difficult emotions like grief, anxiety and anger

     •     Feel good about yourself; and

     •     Cultivate greater kindness towards yourself....

This 6 day, 5 night retreat features:

     •     Instruction on how to meditate

     •     Twice daily meditation sessions

     •     Daily yoga sessions

     •     Ayurvedic Massage

     •     Daily lectures on the mind and body

     •     Practical dietary advice

     •     Practical lifestyle advice

     •     Cooking demonstrations and workshops

     •     Super delicious Ayurvedic vegetarian food

     •     A stunning rainforest location in Byron Bay

     •     Time for rest, contemplation and relaxation.

MORE TESTIMONIALS...

“The Mudita Health Retreat was nurturing, informative and an incredibly juicy experience for me. Experiencing the retreat with my mum was a wonderful way to open and let go personally and also with each other. One of the highlights for me was Stephen’s gorgeous cooking classes. I have never felt so elated and connected around food, health and joy. Since arriving home I have noticed that although I am still learning, I have been calmer, making better decisions based on my deepest values and doing it all with more ease and joy.” - Skye Craig, 2010 Masterchef Contestant & Dessert Maniac (Brisbane)

“The Mudita health retreat was an amazingly grounding experience for me – the fluidity, the warmth, the energy of the entire retreat was like nothing I have ever experienced.  The food by Stephen was exceptional, the Ayurvedic lectures so simple but powerful and the way it flowed seamlessly into Doko’s teachings and wisdom left me feeling nourished with enthusiasm on every level. Thankyou.” - Ben Middleton, Stockbroker (Sydney)

Location

Sangsurya Retreat Centre, Byron Bay

The Mudita Health Retreats are held at the purpose built Sangsurya Retreat Centre on Old Bangalow Rd, Byron Bay. Sangsurya features stunning views of the ocean, beautifully designed buildings, landscaped gardens, palm trees, a myriad of bird life, walking trails and a freshwater swimming pool, all sensitively located along the ridgeline of a forested 10 acre subtropical property.

The training hall is light, spacious and well-ventilated with a timber floor and high ceiling.  The dining area is warm and welcoming with an open-plan kitchen and huge balcony suspended over the rainforest, offering 180 degree views of the sea. The centre is only a 20-30 min walk to Tallow’s Beach so participants can venture to the beach during free time.

Getting There & Staying Extra Nights

If you’re flying into Gold Coast (Coolangatta) Airport or Ballina Airport, the retreat centre is about a 45-60 minute drive away. There are several shuttle bus companies that will pick you up from the airport and drop you off directly at the centre (and vice versa).  We recommend Xcede (www.xcede.com.au or call 1300 233 113).  Please note this form of transport may require some waiting time at the airport.

If you would like to stay in Byron for extra nights either before or after the retreat (past participants have recommended having an extra day or two in Byron at the end to ease the transition back to your busy life), contact the Byron Visitor Information Centre on (02) 6680 8558 for recommendations or visit the www.stayz.com.au website.

Retreat Accommodation

Your accommodation will be in Balinese-style bungalows, studios and cabins, set amongst the forest and furnished with lovely artwork and pieces collected from around the globe. The rooms immediately make you feel at home. The bathrooms are a particular highlight with Swedish composting toilets and amazing mosaic tile designs.

For a detailed description and photos of the rooms, go to our Retreat Accommodation Page.

Food

All meals are vegetarian, predominantly gluten-free and are prepared fresh, from scratch, by our amazing cook, Tess Kilgariff. Meals are prepared according to the Ayurvedic principles of good digestion so are easy and light to digest, helping to naturally cleanse the body and restore the metabolism. There are five meals each day - breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

Breakfast is either a sweet or savoury porridge (both dairy and soy options are available if required) or pancakes, morning tea is fresh or stewed fruit; lunch is usually a light daal or curry (no chilli) with rice, a veggie dish and salad; afternoon tea is a tasty sweet; and dinner is usually soup, kicharee or another light meal.

The sweeteners used are unrefined - including jaggery, maple syrup and honey and all milk is organic, full cream and unhomogenised. Organic, seasonal, fresh and local ingredients are used wherever possible.

**If you think you will need meals that differ from those described above, please let us know - we can accommodate most dietary requirements. The only diets we cannot really accommodate are Raw Food, Paleo and legume-free (e.g. FODMAPS).**

Yoga

We offer a Restorative Yoga & Guided Rest Class taken by Sarah each afternoon at 3pm. This class is perfect for anyone who needs a jolly good rest which, in our experience, is pretty much everyone. The class will involve a few simple poses followed by an experience of guided rest. There is nothing for you to do; just be gently guided into a deeply restful state through a systematic process of focussing on the breath, on sounds, sensations, peaceful visualisations and different parts of the body. The class is not compulsory... you may wish to go for a walk to the beach instead!

We also have space in the marquee by the dining hall for anyone who wants to do their own personal practice (yoga, tai chi etc) during free time.

“It was wonderful, wonderful, wonderful and touched all the right buttons for me. I was reminded that food and the way I cook and eat it is of paramount importance to my health and well being. I now have a clue how to meditate to calm myself and release stress from everyday life--meditation was a complete mystery to me before. I would definitely recommend the retreat to others. This can be a life changing experience and a true gift to yourself or a loved one in need of nurturing and some tools to bring calm and health into everyday life. I am so grateful to have been given this gift.” - Jacquie Dwyer, Business Owner (Brisbane)

“The Mudita Health Retreat was life-changing and life-saving. Everything just made sense - from Doko’s teachings to the Ayurvedic principles of living.  By the end of the retreat everyone was smiling. I recommend the retreat to everyone. Thank you for your warmth, wisdom, teachings and humour.” - Wendy Martin (Adelaide)
